During the Cold War, Mikoyan Gurevich fighters were so universal to the Soviet Union and its allies that any Soviet made fighter was called a MiG regardless of their manufacturer. The US military called their combat air patrols 'MiGCAPs' rather than 'SuCAP' or 'YakCAP'. They really seemed to have fallen on hard times since the Soviet collapse without a comeback forthcoming.
