I read some Iraq War book (could be Generation Kill) where a squad of Marines are in Baghdad just after the fall of the Baath regime. Unemployed Iraqi men were hanging around on street corners and dozens of women were scurrying around lifting heavy sacks on their shoulders. This led a Marine to observe "If the women were the ones fighting they'll have beaten our asses."
