It's bizarre that in the UK, when people say 'Asian' they're talking about Indians, Pakistanis and Bangladeshis or Brit citizens who hail from that lineage. My mom has a weird quirk of referring to ourselves as 'Orientals' which I'm sure is colonial era white speak for Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese and Koreans.

This country (UK) does not have enough Pacific Islanders or else we'll end up having the awkward abbreviation BAPI or ABPI (British Asian and Pacific Islander or Asian British Pacific Islander).

On another note, the Arab majority populations of Egypt, Tunisia, Libya and Morrocco would rarely be called 'Africans' even though their countries are part of that continent: it always refers to black people.

I find it amusing but dumb that black people who have never lived in the US are sometimes called 'African American' by mistake.
