Right wingers hate public education because they only want the children of (white Christian) elites to benefit. If you keep the masses dumb, they can be manipulated by the right wing media ecosystem and they won't comprehend the cookies being taken from them.
As for the weapon at Donald's golf course, it may have been a heavily tricked out SKS - the original was a semi-automatic rifle with a low capacity magazine introduced at the end of WW2, predating the AK.
